David Keeling Confirmed as OSHA Assistant Secretary

On October 7, the U.S. Senate officially confirmed David Keeling as Assistant Secretary of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at the U.S. Department of Labor. Keeling was confirmed, along with 106 other nominees, through “en bloc Senate nominations” – a process of confirming multiple presidential nominees with a single vote, rather than considering and voting on each one individually.

AGC had previously urged the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee to report favorably to the full Senate the nomination of David Keeling, which they did on June 26.

Mr. Keeling has a strong background in leading the safety and health efforts at some of the largest employers in the United States and has a proven track record of working with both labor and management in these roles. Given his background and experience, he is well suited to continue leading the mission of OSHA – protecting the men and women working across all industry sectors, including construction.

During his June 5 HELP Committee confirmation hearing, Mr. Keeling outlined his three main goals for OSHA if he’s confirmed as leader of the agency – modernizing regulatory oversight and rulemaking, strengthening industry collaboration, and transforming enforcement through data. Learn more here.

Under Mr. Keeling’s leadership, AGC will work to continue the strong partnership that we have fostered with the agency.
