Congress and Incoming Administration Ready Immigration Actions

As widely reported the incoming Trump Administration is planning a number of immigration actions in the early days of the new administration. While many of the most public initiatives will center around using executive power to address border security, it is likely these initiatives will be more restrictive and increase scrutiny on employers leading to increased labor shortages. This week, Congress is considering legislation that will impose stricter measures on undocumented immigrants that commit crimes. Congressional leaders plan to send these strict measures to President Trump after inauguration day and are a sign the new Congress is willing to take more aggressive actions.

AGC is preparing for the new landscape by providing member resources on how employers in the construction industry can prepare for changes in immigration enforcement, compliance measures and practical guidance through a downloadable webinar. In addition to lobbying the Congress and new Administration on the industry’s priorities, AGC has also launched a new, targeted digital advertising campaign in support of work authorization programs that will direct people to a special landing page we have created: WorkforceDoneRight.org. The ads are part of AGC’s broader efforts to address construction workforce shortages, in part by defending existing, and pushing for additional, lawful paths for immigrants to work in construction.
