Building Influence: How AGC Plays a Key Role in the Deregulatory Agenda

AGC has always been proactive in our engagement with all branches of government on behalf of the construction industry. You might recall that we recently reported on:

  • AGC’s testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works  Committee on the status of the infrastructure law;
  • AGC’s testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on the need for environmental permitting reforms;
  • AGC’s testimony before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on the nation’s transportation systems; and
  • Meetings with the Trump administration’s transition teams;

Recently the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy came to the AGC Townhouse to discuss the construction industry’s deregulatory priorities. The Office of Advocacy is an independent voice for small business within the federal government. They work to ensure that small business views are heard during the regulatory process and that small business stakeholders have the tools they need to advance the small business economy. They also provide resources for small businesses who want to get involved with the regulatory process directly.

At the March 21 meeting, AGC discussed our Deregulatory Wish List for contractors on issues related to procurement, immigration, labor and workforce, and the environment. AGC developed the wish list in order to assist agencies with implementation of Executive Order 14219, Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementing the President’s “Department of Government Efficiency” Deregulatory Initiative. In that order, the President asked agencies to prepare several categories of rules that are ripe for rollback.

The Wishlist represents the construction industry’s priorities that AGC outlined in a letter to President Trump at the outset of his administration. AGC appreciates the outreach and looks forward to continued collaboration that will help our nation’s contractors do what they do best: get to work.
