U.S. Supreme Court Allows Termination of TPS for Venezuelans

The U.S. Supreme Court recently allowed the Trump administration to move forward with ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for about 350,000 Venezuelans who were granted it in 2023.  This decision does not affect the 250,000 Venezuelans who received TPS in 2021—they may still stay and work in the U.S. for now.

As a result of the ruling:

  • Work permits for the 2023 group have now expired as of April 2, 2025
  • Work permits for the 2021 group will expire on September 10, 2025

The Court did not rule on the merits of the administration’s actions, but its ruling allows the policy change to take effect – and for affected Venezuelans to be deported – while the litigation progresses.
