What’s Waiting for You in Columbus

Every year at its annual convention, AGC of America delivers a top-notch program – impactful education sessions, valuable economic, legislative and political insights, and tried-and-true business solutions — along with irreplaceable connections made at the many networking events. No matter the geographic location of the convention, attendees are guaranteed to leave with more tools than they had upon arrival.
In April 2025, the AGC magic will take place in Columbus, Ohio, and while the days will be loaded with learning, the nights will be yours to explore. Several local AGC members weighed in on what the great city has to offer.
“When I first heard about the opportunity to relocate to Columbus, Ohio,” said Maria Houle, senior project executive, Gilbane, a member of multiple AGC chapters, “I was absolutely thrilled. Columbus feels like a place where anything is possible, a destination that has a hometown feel with the amenities of a big city. It’s a hidden gem with so much to discover and appreciate. Once the word gets out, it will be the destination that people will travel to for business and pleasure. How cool is it that Columbus is my hometown?”
Dustin Hawkins, senior project safety manager on the North Market Tower project, Gilbane, appreciates the city’s diversity, both from a population standpoint as well as the food offerings. In fact, Columbus has quietly become a hotspot for foodies and beverage enthusiasts alike. The city’s vibrant culinary scene boasts an array of eateries and bars that cater to diverse tastes and preferences.
Chow Down Columbus
Both Houle and Hawkins recommend the North Market, a 148-year-old public market that has become an iconic destination for food lovers. It’s home to numerous merchants offering everything from fresh produce and meats to artisanal cheeses and baked goods.
“It has 35 different merchants that offer all different kinds of food and drinks,” said Hawkins.
Located just a short six-minute walk from the Hilton Columbus Downtown, the AGC Convention headquarter hotel, the North Market is always Houle’s first stop when visitors come to town.
“Not only do I get to introduce my out-of-town guests to the amazing variety of food offered, I also get to introduce them to the local business owners and see what the future landscape could look like.”
Crafty CBUS
Columbus (CBUS) has become a significant player in the craft beer scene, so says USA Today, designating Columbus as the 3rd best beer city in the nation, selected by an expert panel and voted by readers.
Land Grant makes both Hawkins’s and Houle’s lists of breweries to visit.
In the heart of Franklinton, Land Grant Brewing Company is known for its innovative and diverse range of beers. The brewery’s spacious beer garden is a major draw, particularly in the warmer months. Popular brews include the Stiff-Arm IPA and the 1862 Ale. Land-Grant often collaborates with local artists and musicians, making it a cultural hub as well as a beer destination.
Wolf’s Ridge also made Hawkins’s list of brewery faves. For anyone serious about craft beer, it’s a must-visit. Situated downtown, this brewery is renowned for its meticulously crafted beers and exceptional food. Their taproom offers a rotating selection of beers, with standouts like the Dire Wolf Imperial Stout and the Clear Sky Cream Ale. The adjoining dining room provides a more upscale atmosphere, perfect for a beer and food pairing experience.
And, of course, “a brewery hop is always an option,” said Houle.
“Experience Columbus and all it has to offer, and you will fall in love.”
Take Houle’s advice. Come to Columbus, Ohio, April 8-10, 2025, and you’ll leave with a wide array of construction and business knowledge plus a newfound appreciation for another great U.S. city.
