Members of AGC’s Utility Infrastructure Division – who are engaged in utility construction, including water and wastewater facilities and pipelines, energy generation and transmission, and telecommunications infrastructure – traveled to Tucson, Arizona to participate in an meeting that coincided with the Common Ground Alliance’s (CGA) annual Fall Summit. AGC members discussed an array of topics relating to utility infrastructure in the meeting, including 811 policies and procedures, PHMSA reauthorization, permitting reform, PFAS liabilities for contractors, safety planning for utility excavation and more. In addition to national AGC members, the Arizona AGC chapter attended the meeting, and Arizona AGC hosted all attendees to a reception and dinner following the meeting.
AGC is a member of the CGA, which is an advocacy coalition dedicated to bringing underground excavation stakeholders together to establish best practices based on consensus among stakeholders. CGA is composed of various committees and task forces that seek to eliminate damages in underground excavation work. The annual Fall Summit brings members of their various committees and task forces together to discuss top issues within damage prevention and to codify new best practices members need to undertake when calling 811 or doing underground excavation work. AGC members at the Arizona Fall Summit participated in the committee and task force sessions and discussed damage prevention tracking methods, new technologies in underground damage prevention, best practices and more.
In addition to attending the CGA Fall Summit, all AGC members are encouraged to volunteer on AGC’s behalf on the Common Ground Alliance. AGC has several seats available to members who wish to volunteer on our behalf with the CGA. We encourage any interested members to reach out to AGC staff with their interest.
