AGC of America recently urged the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions to report favorably to the full Senate the nominations of Andrew Rogers to serve as the Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division at the U.S. Department of Labor and Andrea R. Lucas to fill a Republican seat on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Both Mr. Rogers and Mrs. Lucas have extensive employment law expertise and substantive knowledge of the various matters under the purview of the Division and Commission.
The Wage and Hour Division enforces the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, wage garnishment provisions of the Consumer Credit Protection Act, and several immigration related statutes. Additionally, the Division administers and enforces the Davis-Bacon and Related Acts and other statutes applicable to federal contracts for construction.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or EEOC for short, is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetic information. The laws apply to all types of work situations, including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages, and benefits.
