Associated General Contractors of America Also Recognizes Hensel Phelps and AvalonBay Communities for their Diversity & Inclusion Programs while Bermúdez Longo Díaz Massó, LLC is Named Diverse Business of the Year

San Antonio’s Central Builders was recognized as having the nation’s top construction diversity & inclusion program by the Associated General Contractors of America. The association also awarded Puerto Rico’s Bermúdez Longo Díaz Massó as Diverse Business of the Year. Also receiving Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Awards, sponsored by WTW, to Hensel Phelps and AvalonBay Communities.

“If diversifying our workforce was easy, we would all have done it by now. That is why we and WTW identify and honor members that are doing an outstanding job making their firms more diverse and inclusive,” said Tom Brown, the association’s president and president of Sierra Pacific West, Inc. “We want to honor and recognize their achievements. And we want to hold them up as examples to be emulated.”

The Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Grand Award winner, Central Builders, Inc, is dedicated to their diversity & inclusion strategies–not simply as means to meet a requirement. By embracing diversity, they have created an environment that values various perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds and has greatly enhanced their company’s reputation and brand image. Their commitment to diversity and inclusion is fundamental to their success as an organization, enabling Central Builders to thrive in an ever-changing construction marketplace.

Diverse Business of the Year winner Bermúdez, Longo, Diaz-Massó, LLC, better known as BLDM, is a distinguished and leading specialty construction firm focusing strongly on electrical, mechanical, and telecommunications infrastructure projects within Puerto Rico. Founded and led by Puerto Rican professionals, their commitment to delivering exceptional results and unwavering dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion has solidified their reputation in the construction industry. These principles have underpinned their sustained growth for over six decades.

The Association also announced two other winners of the association’s seventh annual Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Awards. Hensel Phelps, based in Colorado, won the Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award for a large contractor. Arlington, Virginia’s AvalonBay Communities won the Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award for a mid-sized contractor. In addition, Central Builders also won the Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award for a small contractor.

The awards were presented during the association’s annual convention in San Diego, California last month. A diverse panel of judges, representing all aspects of construction, evaluated the submissions based on three criteria: corporate commitment to diversity & inclusion, workforce diversity & inclusion initiatives and subcontractor/supply chain diversity & inclusion initiatives.
