On September 18, the U.S. Senate confirmed Sean McMaster as the 22nd Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). In an en bloc vote of 51–47, McMaster was confirmed along with Jonathan Morrison as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Paul Roberti as Administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). You may recall, AGC previously reported on President Trump’s selection of McMaster to lead FHWA and AGC’s support of the nomination.

McMaster brings experience from senior positions at the U.S. Department of Transportation during President Trump’s first term, as well as time on Capitol Hill as professional staff for the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. As Administrator, McMaster will oversee FHWA’s responsibility for supporting state and local governments in the design, construction, and maintenance of the nation’s highways through the Federal-Aid Highway Program. FHWA plays a critical role in ensuring that federal infrastructure dollars flow efficiently to state and local partners, advancing project delivery and helping contractors keep crews and equipment working.

McMaster emphasized that his focus will be on revitalizing America’s roads and bridges and working closely with state and local leaders to speed up project timelines. “I look forward to partnering with state and local leaders to accelerate project delivery and get shovels in the ground,” he said following his confirmation.
