Each year the winners of the Outstanding Student Chapters Contest are invited to share their winning project at the AGC Annual Convention. This year, twelve of ISU AGC’s fourteen cabinets, were able to attend the Convention, where they shared details about their Operation Dry Creek Road project in Jonesborough, Tenn. that won them first place.

Once again, HR and Training Professionals in the Construction Industry will come together in October for AGC’s Construction HR and Training Professionals Conference. The Conference will take place Oct. 15-17 in Phoenix, Ariz. at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. Information about the event is located on the AGC website. Registration will open in the Spring.

Last month, AGC released a new Workforce Development Plan. This plan outlines a series of measures AGC is urging national, state and local officials to adopt to make it easier for school districts, construction firms and chapters to establish training programs to help prepare future construction workers.

All AGC Student Chapters are encouraged to submit an application to showcase their work in the community during the 2013-14 academic year. There is no cost

On February 10, First Lady Michele Obama announced at a U.S. Department of Labor event that “the construction industry has pledged to hire 100,000 veterans” during the next five years.  During the event, she noted that 100 construction companies have pledged to increase their hiring and cited the broader efforts of many firms and associations in hiring

The fifth course in AGC’s Lean Construction Education Program (LCEP) titled Unit 5: Lean Supply Chain and Assembly is now available! This is an eight-hour, facilitator-led course that introduces the lean strategies and tools used to deliver materials, equipment and prefabricated assemblies to the jobsite in a manner that facilitates flow.
