At AGC’s National and Chapter Leadership Conference, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) took time out of his busy schedule, even as he was negotiating a critical government funding bill, to address association leaders. Despite the high-stakes environment on Capitol Hill, Johnson made it a priority to be with the AGC attendees, recognizing the vital role the construction industry plays in job creation and economic growth. His presence and message were a clear sign of his commitment to advancing policies that support construction professionals and the broader economy.

The Speaker focused on the need for permitting reform and eliminating burdensome regulations, two key issues impacting the construction sector. He emphasized that streamlining the environmental review and permitting process would accelerate infrastructure projects, helping to drive growth and innovation. His willingness to carve out time during such a crucial legislative period highlighted how important these reforms are to his legislative agenda and to the future of the industry.

The National and Chapter Leadership Conference is an annual event held in Washington, D.C., designed for the leadership of AGC’s chapters, including Chapter Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Executive Officers. The conference provides a platform for these leaders to network, discuss industry challenges, and share solutions with their peers from across the country.

In addition to networking and knowledge sharing, the conference features high-level speakers, such as members of Congress and industry experts. Some attendees also participate in Hill meetings where they meet with their representatives and senators to address concerns and lobby on AGC’s legislative issues.

Top priorities for this year included:

  • Reversing the Higher Education Bias and Invest in the Construction Workforce
  • Undertaking Immigration Reform that Addresses Workforce Needs
  • Opposing One-Size-Fits-All OSHA National Heat Standard
  • Protecting Contractors from PFAS Superfund Liability
  • Extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act
