Action Alert to Improve Highway Work Zone Safety

AGC of America is asking members to urge U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and their representatives in Congress to take decisive steps that protect crews and motorists alike. The alert follows fresh findings from the 2025 AGC–HCSS Highway Work Zone Survey showing that six in ten highway contractors experienced a vehicle crash in one of their work zones during the past year—a sobering reminder that job-site dangers are rising, not receding. Members can reach lawmakers through this link that auto-populates a message but still lets users add personal stories or local data.

The campaign urges federal decision-makers to adopt three common-sense reforms: (1) create a dedicated funding stream for work-zone safety countermeasures; (2) require every state’s driver-education curriculum and licensing exam to cover work-zone awareness; and (3) authorize and encourage the use of automated speed-enforcement cameras in active work zones to deter the most dangerous behaviors.

Work-zone crashes and fatalities have climbed sharply since 2020, prompting calls from FHWA, state DOTs, and grieving families for tougher penalties and better enforcement. Make the industry’s voice heard by participating in this Action Alert.
